Major League Soccer
As the top-flight professional league in the United States,
Major League Soccer (MLS) delivers fast-paced and goal packed
competitive football that runs through the traditional summer break
of European leagues.
Now in its 14th season, the MLS has seen a period of
continued growth highlighted by team expansion and the construction
of soccer-specific stadiums. The Seattle Sounders become the
newest franchise as the 15th team this season, with the League
aiming to further expand to 18 teams by 2012.
The league also continues to attact an influx of famous foreign players to compete alongside their US counterparts. Among them Argentine Claudio Lopez, Colombia striker Juan Pablo Angel, English midfielder David Beckham and US National team star Landon Donovan draw a growing international audience with each new season.
